Common Name – Greater Roadrunner
Scientific Name – Geococcyx californianus
Range – This bird can be found from Northern California (hence part of its scientific name), then east to Louisiana, and south to Mexico.
Habitat – It mainly likes to live in desert lands, dry open country, and mesquite groves. However, it can also be found in chaparral, grasslands, and agricultural areas.
Unique Characteristics or Habits – These birds are very shy and are usually seen running really fast with their neck stretched out. They will sometimes be seen shaking their tail from side-to-side.
